My Mountain Warehouse Steve Backshall Collection Review
Getting outside became a much bigger part of our family life during 2016. Before then, I would hardly have described us as an outdoors family. Cold or wet weather was usually enough to put me off, but I began to enjoy our weekend walks with the children and dogs.
Once those walks became something I looked forward to, I realised how much difference suitable clothing could make, particularly during the colder months.
When Mountain Warehouse invited me to review some pieces from their Steve Backshall collection, it felt like a good opportunity to try children’s outdoor clothing on the walks we were already enjoying.
The Outdoor Clothing Jacob Chose
At the time of my original review, Mountain Warehouse had teamed up with Steve Backshall to create a collection of outdoor clothing and accessories for children.
Jacob chose the Sherpa Youth Jacket and the Youth Wolf Hoodie. The jacket looked like a practical choice for our weekend walks, while the hoodie appealed to him straight away because of its howling wolf design.
He described it as “well cool”, and it became his favourite jumper to wear. I liked that he had been able to choose something he was excited about wearing, alongside a jacket suited to our time outdoors.
My Thoughts on the Sherpa Youth Jacket
The Sherpa Youth Jacket had taped seams and was described as fully waterproof. It also came with a detachable hood, a fleece lining and added insulation for warmth.
I appreciated those practical details when choosing a jacket for our colder walks. The elasticated cuffs were another useful feature, helping the sleeves fit more closely around his wrists.
My overall impression was that the jacket was nicely made and good quality. It was the sort of outdoor clothing I had been looking for as our family began spending more time outside.
Why Jacob Loved the Wolf Hoodie
The Youth Wolf Hoodie was the piece Jacob was particularly pleased with. The howling wolf print made it stand out for him, and I liked the feel of the warm brushed fleece lining.
The hoodie was made from 60% cotton and 40% polyester. I found it lightweight and comfortable, without the bulk that some hoodies can have.
I was pleased with the quality of the print and how well made the hoodie felt. Jacob loved both items, but the wolf design made the jumper a clear favourite.
What I Noticed About the Sizing
The main thing I noticed was that both pieces came up small. I had ordered the next size up and was glad I did.
That was my experience with the particular jacket and hoodie I reviewed. I would check the measurements for any item I was buying now, rather than assume that the fit would be the same across the whole range.

We're looking forward to lots more weekend walks this year - we even talking about booking a cottage one weekend to take the kids to the Brecon Beacons.
