Ben 10 has been a favourite in our household for years. Lewis loved watching the cartoon and collecting the toys when he was younger. By the time he had moved on from it, Jacob had discovered the programme and was enjoying his own Ben 10 adventures.
I find it lovely when something one of the children enjoyed becomes a favourite with another. Although they both liked Ben 10, they had different favourite aliens. Lewis preferred Diamondhead, while Jacob’s favourite was Four Arms.
Jacob was excited to receive a figure from the Ben 10 Power Up range, especially as he got to try Four Arms.
The Story Behind Ben 10
The programme follows ten year old Ben as he travels with his Grandpa Max and cousin Gwen.
His Omnitrix watch allows him to transform into different alien heroes, each with their own abilities. That gives Jacob plenty of characters and adventures to draw on when playing with his toys.
I enjoy seeing him take ideas from the programme and turn them into stories of his own.
The Ben 10 Power Up Figures
At the time of my original review, there were three figures in the Power Up range: Heatblast, Diamondhead and Four Arms.
The figures measured approximately 5.5 inches tall and had movable parts, allowing Jacob to change their positions during play.
The main feature was the power up action. Pressing a button activated lights and sounds, adding something extra to the alien figure.
Playing With Four Arms
Four Arms was a particularly good choice for Jacob because it was already his favourite character.
He enjoyed the lights and sounds, while the movable parts gave him different ways to position the figure as he played. I liked that it could join the Ben 10 toys he already owned rather than needing a separate playset.
Jacob had a mixture of older and newer Ben 10 toys, and he enjoyed bringing them together to act out battles and create his own adventures.
Adding to Jacob’s Collection
The Power Up figure was a hit with Jacob. After trying Four Arms, he added Heatblast and Diamondhead to his Christmas list because he wanted to collect all three.
For me, that showed how much the range appealed to him. He was already enjoying the figure he had and thinking about how the other characters could become part of his play.
My Overall Thoughts
I thought the Ben 10 Power Up Four Arms figure was an enjoyable addition to Jacob’s collection.
The lights and sounds were a fun feature, and I appreciated that the movable parts allowed him to do more than simply stand the figure on a shelf. Most importantly, it was a character he loved and wanted to include in his imaginative play.
This review reflects my experience with the original Power Up range and Jacob’s enjoyment of the figure at that time.
