Review: SHOEPS Elastic Shoe Laces

If there is one thing that used to drive me slightly mad, it was having to constantly remind my son Lewis to tie his shoelaces.

How many times can you ask a child to tie their shoelaces before you start sounding like a broken record?

"Have you tied your laces?"

"Your shoelaces are undone."

"Please tie your shoes."

And then, five minutes later, there they were again, completely undone!

So when I discovered SHOEPS elastic shoe laces, I thought Lewis would be the perfect person to put them to the test. Not only could they hopefully save me from constantly reminding him about his shoelaces, but he could also show them off to his mates.

What Are SHOEPS Elastic Shoe Laces?

SHOEPS are an alternative to traditional shoelaces. They are elastic shoe laces that mean you don't have to keep tying and untying your shoes.

Once they are fitted, they effectively turn your laced shoes into slip on shoes.

I thought this was such a simple idea, but also one that could make a big difference for children who struggle with tying their shoelaces or simply cannot be bothered to do them up properly!

Fitting SHOEPS

SHOEPS come in a little pack with clear and helpful instructions.

There are 14 individual elastic laces included in the pack. We used six SHOEPS on each shoe, leaving us with two spare.

Fitting them into the shoes was actually very straightforward.

First, you remove the existing shoelaces and then thread each individual SHOEPS through the eyelets.

You start at the toe end of the shoe and work your way up, threading them through one side and then the other.

You can also choose how many SHOEPS you want to use in your shoes, depending on the fit and how much support you want.

Once they are fitted, they are secure and ready to use.

The First Few Days

Initially, the SHOEPS were quite tight, and Lewis did struggle a little to get his shoes on.

I think this was probably because the elastic laces needed a little time to stretch and settle.

After a couple of days, they had stretched just enough and Lewis was able to slip his shoes on and off much more easily.

That was exactly what I was hoping for.

No more stopping to tie shoelaces.

No more reminding him that his laces were trailing along the floor.

And hopefully, fewer occasions where I had to worry about him tripping over his own undone shoelaces!

Lots of Colours to Choose From

One thing I really liked about SHOEPS is the choice of colours.

They were available in blue, white, silver, green, brown, pink, red, yellow and orange, as well as a multicoloured option.

So rather than the elastic laces simply being a practical replacement for ordinary shoelaces, they can actually become part of the look of the shoe.

Lewis could choose a colour he liked and show them off to his mates, which made the whole idea much more appealing to him.

Are SHOEPS Good Value?

At the time of this review, SHOEPS were priced at £12.99 per pack.

Personally, I thought that was a reasonable price, particularly because the elastic laces can be reused when you change your shoes.

Rather than buying a new pair of traditional shoelaces every time, you can simply transfer your SHOEPS into your next pair of suitable shoes.

For something that makes putting shoes on so much quicker and easier, I thought they offered good value.

Would I Use SHOEPS Myself?

Honestly, yes!

I actually started thinking that I wouldn't mind having a pair myself.

I have a pair of Converse that I think would be perfect for SHOEPS, and if I were choosing a colour, I would definitely go for silver.

I love how simple they are.

They make wearing laced shoes much more convenient, especially when you are someone who would rather just slip your shoes on and get on with your day.

Our SHOEPS Review

I really liked SHOEPS.

They are such a simple idea, but sometimes it is the simple things that make everyday life easier.

For us, the biggest benefit was not having to constantly remind Lewis to tie his shoelaces. Once the SHOEPS had stretched a little, he could easily slip his shoes on and off himself.

I also liked that they looked fun rather than simply being a practical solution. With so many colours available, children can choose a pair that suits their personality and their shoes.

And most importantly for me, I no longer had to keep asking Lewis to tie his laces in the hope that he wouldn't end up tripping over them!

SHOEPS turned his laced shoes into something much closer to slip ons, and I could definitely see us using them again.
