National Handwriting Day

I am a very sentimental person and I love to keep my memories, especially the memories I have of my children.

I keep all the kid's drawings, birthday cards, school work and anything to keep as a cherished keepsake; a collection built up over the years as they grow. Not only do I keep items that they themselves loved and cherished, but also items that remind me of them. Something I store safely away in the loft, memories being stored.

I plan to get the boxes down (there are many) with the kid's things and just look at them and remember.

So when I was given the challenge to celebrate National Handwriting Day, my first thought was to celebrate with my children and their handwriting.

It's nice to have a day to appreciate handwriting where we live in a time where most people prefer texting and typing! You truly can't beat good ole pen and paper - I love writing, I prefer writing - the pen is mightier than the keyboard.

It's so much more personal and beautiful when you have their handwriting as a memento. Yes, I have stacks of their school work, but nothing collectively. So, I thought "I know", I would love to collect each of their writing on one piece, to frame it and to keep it. And, that is what we did today, for National Handwriting Day 2016.

Lewis wrote his first, then Summer, Jacob and finally Liam.

One thing I loved discovering when the kids were doing this task, is how both my oldest two's writing is the same.

Next year, we will do the same again and display it in the right-hand side of the frame.  And, I hope to do the same each year for as long as I can - all 4 kids writing their name, their age and the year, where I can see their writing evolve.
