CO Awareness week
CO Awareness Week is organised by a charity aptly called CO Awareness. The week is designed to increase awareness of the deadly silent gas, carbon monoxide poisoning, and to support victims of carbon monoxide poisoning.
This silent killer, CO Poisoning kills 30 people a year, with the elderly and the young at most risk. CORGI HomePlan’s 2015 research revealed that 1 in 10 adults in the UK believe they have suffered CO poisoning to some extent.
To lower the risk you should get your fossil fuel and wood burning appliances regularly checked by a registered engineer - not just for your home, but your caravan, camping, etc. In addition, for an extra level of protection it is advisable to have a CO alarm fitted.
CO alarms are designed to provide warning when CO levels in the air reach dangerous levels, potentially saving someone's life. Remember that you cannot smell CO and, as symptoms of CO poisoning take over, you may become confused and less capable of making decisions that could save your life.
Education through awareness weeks such as this are vitally important in improving your CO safety and sharing the message that all gas appliances (not just in the home) must be regularly serviced to work safely. CORGI HomePlan is committed to making this happen.
