The Importance of Exfoliating your skin
When I hit my mid-30s, my skin took a turn for the worse. Acne, eczema, dry flakey skin... And, I avoided exfoliators like the plague, believing that it was too harsh on my sensitive skin, that it would make my skin worse.
How wrong was I?
My skin was in rough shape, and I was miserable. Antibiotics had cleared my Acne, but I was still suffering from dreadful skin. I'd purchased and tried many different types of foundations, and brushes to no avail, my makeup would turn out cakey and it always drew attention to my wrinkles, blemishes, and dry spots.
I just didn't understand or I couldn't find that magic product.
Then a few months ago I read somewhere that I absolutely need to exfoliate. Thus, I dug out a very old Elemis face exfoliate I had stored away (vowed never to use), and started to exfoliate my face.
Wow.
After a few days', I started to notice the improvement in my skin and I felt stupid. Stupid from shying away from exfoliates for so long. The one product I thought would irritate my sensitive skin, in fact, did the complete opposite, it renewed and refreshed my skin. It cleared and cleaned and I can now wear foundation that looks 100 times better.
How and why it is important to exfoliate
If you don't exfoliate you are not removing the dead skin cells and dead skin cells reduce the amount of absorption you get from the products you apply and increase dryness and irritation. Exfoliating removes the old dead skin cells and in turn it speeds up cell renewal, enabling new healthy skin cells to grow.
Your body continuously produces new cells to replace those that naturally die off. If your skin is not cleaned effectively, then excessive dead skin can build-up, laying on the surface. It's one of the causes for dull, lackluster and unhealthy skin. Additionally, dead skin cells clog your pores and create blockage, wreaking havoc for your skin - just like it was with mine.
There are many different types of exfoliators available, and it's important that you find one that is gentle/sensitive, preferably one that has natural ingredients and will “digest” your dead skin cells gently and effectively.
I would highly recommend...
