Ring Video Doorbell

We've never had a doorbell before, never needed one, until now. We had an extension built on the back of our house, which is now our living room. And, as our living room was now moved further to the back of the house, we found we now needed a door bell as we now don't always hear when someone knocks on the door - yes, we do have 2 beagles, but sometimes (especially in the evening) they are simply too lazy to bark and alert us to the door. So we needed a doorbell. Which I was quite excited about and even more excited to be getting the Ring Video Doorbell.

The Ring Video Doorbell gives you a camera in it as well as a motion sensor, microphone and speaker. All these features allow you to use your iOS or Android devices to see and talk to anyone at your door from your living room, to your bathroom, to outside your home, in fact anywhere in the world. When someone presses your Ring doorbell you receive a push notification alerting you to someone at your door. You can then tap on the notification and it takes you to the App and gives you live view. It's as cool as it sounds!

Depending on your situation or where you are, you can either go answer the door, or if you are out, you can tap on the talk button and talk to them.

Installing your Ring Video Doorbell.

Was dead easy! Included in the box is everything you need (bar the drill) to install your new Ring Video Doorbell. There are two options for installation. If you have a wire you can connect it to that with clear instructions. The second option is battery operated, which means it does and will need charging up. As we don't have a wire, we fitted it and will remove and charge it when needed. You then connect it to your WiFi via the smartphone app - it was very easy to do and as our modem is right next to our front door, we have full speed to it.

The only difficulty we experienced was the size of the doorbell, it's nearly as wide as my iPhone 7 - pretty large. So we were quite restricted on where we could install it, but it worked out well for us in the end and is positioned nicely on the inside of our door arch and although it is facing sideways instead of forward facing, it still captures everything clearly.

I don't use the motion sensor, it would pick everyone up that walks past the house, if I had a bigger front garden then I would use motion sensor.

It works really well. The live capture and the sound is really clear. I am super pleased with it.

It comes with a free 30-day trial of Cloud Video Recording, after which if you want all your live doorbell rings recorded you have to pay a small monthly fee. If you don't want it to record, then you don't have to pay. At the moment I am opting not to pay, but I'll see how it goes.

What I would like to see if the app available on Amazon Fire TV, so I can live view via my TV instead of having to grab my phone.
