Enjoying More Water

When it comes to drinking water, I have two kids that love it and two that don't. And, with two out three parents saying they do not know how much water their children should be drinking each day, I know I am not the only parent out there trying to make this positive health change. It is small changes, like encouraging children to drink water regularly, can have a big impact on their health and lives.

Lewis, his first choice is always water, he loves it, and so does Summer, however, when it comes to Liam and Jacob, they much prefer the sugary drinks. Jacob is the worse and refuses to drink water unless it has added juice, but Liam over the past few months I've noticed he has been drinking more and more water - but still has way too much sugary drinks. Jacob, it's an uphill struggle with him at the moment, an ongoing mission for me to persuade and encourage him and Liam to kick the sugar habit and drink more water.

The steps we've been taking to enjoy more water as a family:

Improve the taste:

We live in a hard water area, and there is also a slight stigma that drinking straight from the tap is unappealing. Thus, this is where Robinsons is perfect, by adding a squirt of Robinsons Squash’d, it adds a fruity flavour with far less sugar than most drinks.

Easy access:

I find having bottles of water available in the cupboard encourages the kids to grab a bottle instead of pouring themselves a sugary drink. I now make sure we have a cupboard full of bottled water.

Make changes gradually:

We have been buying less and less sugary drinks over time, to gradually limit their options, to which they have slowly been drinking more and more water.

Be a water role model:

Drinking water for me is a new thing, I've spent years avoiding it, and opted for the sugary stuff. Until a couple of years ago where I've slowly taught myself to love water again.  Which is important, as if I am trying to teach my kids to drink more water, then I need to be a role model and drink more myself.

Robinsons launched the Enjoying Drinking More Water campaign in January 2016, and as part of their mission to get us enjoying drinking more water, we were invited to get involved. They kindly sent us a gift box including six delicious flavours of Robinsons Squash’d and a star chart to help track our progress. So far so good, it has had an encouraged and positive effect, Jacob has enjoyed more water flavoured with Robinsons, and drinking less sugary drinks.
