Dog Dental Care Tips For Dog's that Hate Their Teeth Being Brushed

The recommendation is to brush your dog's teeth daily to prevent food and bacteria from building up which can lead to plaque, gum irritation, and infections. But, if you have a dog like my Poppy who doesn't like her teeth brushed, then it can be very difficult.  So what else can we do to keep our dog’s teeth clean and clear from potential issues?

Here’s how I keep both Kiwi and Poppy's mouth cleaner:

Vegetables and Fruits for Snacks

Veg and Fruits don't stick to the dog's teeth. Kiwi loves raw carrots and apples. I give her one as a snack and she gets very excited. She also likes Brussels sprouts, bananas and celery - you do have to be careful as not all fruit is suitable for dogs. So please do your research first.

Raw Diet

I love feeding them on a raw diet. It has many benefits for their health if done correctly, and the best part is, they love it. The raw meat contains natural enzymes, and in addition, raw food doesn't stick to teeth, unlike starchy kibble. Raw uncooked bone is a gentle dental abrasive, acting like fine sandpaper when chewed, which helps remove debris stuck on teeth. Kiwi and Poppy are excelling on their raw diet, but if you go down the raw diet route, please do your research.

Pedigree Dentastix

Pedigree Dentastix is designed to help keep your dog’s teeth cleaner. They are a unique "X" shaped treat clinically proven to reduce plaque and tartar buildup.

The cross-like shape of the Dentistix is designed to act as the edges of a 'toothbrush'. The texture of them means that they aren’t devoured in a minute and that the dog chews on them, giving their teeth a good 'brush'.

We give one Pedigree Dentastix to each Poppy and Kiwi every day - it's routine now and they love them. It's great as I know it is going a long way to keeping my girl's teeth clean and healthy, and you can see from the photos below, that they get very excited when they see it is time for their Dentastix.

Keeping your pet's teeth cleaner requires a commitment on your part. And, with the right foods and treats will help keep your pet’s teeth shining and healthy.

Dentasix

Poppy is telling me to hurry up and to give her, her Dentastix. Poppy always barks and howls at me, Kiwi jumps and dances around excitedly.
