Review: Mini Masterpiece with Galt Toys' - Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh
We participated in Galt's mini-masterpiece challenge this month! For May's challenge, we recreated Van Gogh's famous "Starry Night" painting, which was originally painted in 1889. This masterpiece depicts Van Gogh's night view from outside his room window in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, southern France. We printed a copy of the painting from the Galt Toys website, and the boys created their own versions of this iconic artwork.
Lewis loves creating art. He enjoys drawing and colouring, and he aspires to be a sculptor when he grows up. Jacob also loves arts and crafts, and we often work on craft projects together. He is always colouring and drawing. I knew the boys would enjoy this challenge because of their shared passion for art.
Galt sent us the Sensational Sequins Kittens kit to take part in an art challenge. However, Lewis, an 11-year-old boy, was not impressed and refused to touch the kit. I tried to encourage him to use the white and blue sequins, but he still wasn't interested. Jacob then stepped in to help. They agreed that Lewis would color in the picture while Jacob would add the sequins.
Lewis started with the colouring in, using his coloured pencils.
Once Lewis was done and the picture was completely coloured-in and he was happy with it, Jacob stepped in and finished the mini-masterpiece by sticking the sequences:
Finally the finished picture, completed by both boys - Jacob's and Lewis's version of the Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. I hope you like it:
You can visit the Galt website to print a template and create your own masterpiece for a chance to win an arts and crafts bundle worth £50. Each month, a template for a traditional masterpiece from beloved artists around the world will be available for download from the Galt Activity Zone.
