SCA Summer Cleaning Challenge

If you are a regular reader you will know that we are currently having a lot of building work done to the house - I've gone on about it enough.  We had an extension built, then we had walls knocked down, steals put in, and now we are currently having the walls plastered.  Next, it will be the garage conversion.

With all this going on for the past couple of months, we have been crammed into our living room, all of the dining room stuff and toys etc. all crammed into the one room.  Then, with all the building works going on, it means dust, lots, and lots of dust. You can see int he photo below from one afternoon the dust quickly builds up. I wipe it clean and within hours it is building up again - sigh

So when SCA contacted me the other week and asked me to take part in the SCA summer cleaning challenge, I jumped at the chance. The challenge involves me sharing some of my tips and experience on how to kept on top of the mess during the summer holiday and during some messy building work.  I received a lovely goodie bag of products to help me.

When the kit arrived and I spotted the Black and Decker dustbuster, I nearly cried with joy! Perfect timing.  It's a handheld dustbuster, that sucks all the dust efficiently and effectively and it's so easy to use! Perfect for sucking the dust that has been settling on the TV, around the bookcase etc.

In the pack was also an old-fashioned feather duster - I haven't had one of these in many years, and I had forgot how handy they are, perfect to dust between the blinds, over the light shade, in the ceiling corners, on top of door frames, etc.

For the kitchen, we received a compost bin. A compost bin is the perfect solution for recycling food waste. It's ideal for vegetable cuttings, teabags, eggshells and so much more. Then you've made your own compost and you have free soil additive and natural fertilizer for your plants.

Kitchen roll - I use a lot of kitchen roll to clean, they are so handy and convenient, but you have to make sure it is a good sturdy one, otherwise they are pretty useless. I've used Plenty kitchen roll for years, great for scrubbing and cleaning the bathroom and kitchen; the included marigolds, are great for protecting your hands from harsh cleaning. Kitchen roll is perfect for mopping up spills - we have a lot of spills in the house, either the kids or the dog knocking over something.  I grab a sheet of kitchen roll and clear the liquid quickly and effectively.

So there you have it, between the dust buster, the duster, kitchen roll and the marigolds, these products have enabled me to keep on top of the mess over the past couple of weeks. They are convenient products that took a lot of the hassle away. Especially when I'm having to dust several times a day just to keep on top of it during the building work.
