Good Night Sleep - Choosing the Right Duvet
The one thing that keeps me tossing and turning during a warm summers night is being too hot under my covers. It makes me uncomfortable and unable to sleep very well, and if I sleep for less than 6/7 hours each night, I find myself grumpy and irritable.
I am someone that needs a good night sleep, otherwise, the following day I just don't function very well. For me, I need at least 8 hours sleep each night and to achieve a good night sleep I need a good duvet, one that I can sleep under that keeps me warm, but not too hot.
I love to sleep with a duvet, a duvet moulds better around the body and keeps you nice and cosy. But, in the summertime you want a nice lightweight duvet that offers the snuggle factor and one that is airy/puffy and light with mid tog - When under your duvet I love how you can grab a nice little draught of fresh air with only a move of the leg.
There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a duvet, the material, the filling, etc. but to keep from getting too hot under your duvet in the warmer months, especially for those humid nights, my experience would be to try a lighter duvet of 4.5-tog - I was recently sent one from Sleepy People, which I personally find just perfect, nice and light, but still snugly and warm.
My other tips to keep cool during those humid nights:
- Keep a glass of ice cold water by your bed. A cold sip can work wonders.
- To wear loose-fitting, comfortable nightwear in a light material like linen or cotton.
- It's also important to invest into your sleep by having a quality mattress, pillows, sheets. Considering we spend many hours in bed, we should make sure it is a comfortable experience.
