I've not had much luck with printers over the years. Three times I've broken my printers whilst changing those fiddly ink cartridges. Then there is the headache of trying to buy the correct cartridge - I've bought the wrong type a couple of times before, which is an expensive mistake. Then there is trying to find the correct cartridge in stock.
You don't need cartridges with EcoTank printers and can save you up to 70% of your printing costs due to its integrated high-capacity ink tanks. The EcoTank printer contains refillable high-volume tanks that will last you much longer than printers with traditional ink cartridges, which is great for families like me.
We've been reviewing the Epson ET-2500 EcoTank printer these past couple of weeks and love it and it will save us money in the long run.
So how does the EcoTank work?
Rather than opening the base of the printer and trying to slot in the cartridges without losing the tips of your fingers or accidentally knocking a wire and breaking something, with the EcoTanks the ink tanks are positioned outside on the side of the printer. You simply unscrew the lid and pour the ink into the allocated colour, close the lid and that is it, you are good to go.
A Tip for Mac users:
Whilst installing all the software and setting up the printer with my Mac, it wouldn't work with the install disc supplied. I started to get a little frustrated and a bit lost - it just wouldn't find a connection and I tried everything. Then I thought, let me try and search for the driver on the Epson website and download/instal the driver via the website - did it and straight away it worked and recognised my printer.
Pouring the inks I find is quite messy, no matter how hard I tried, when topping the inks up I always get ink on my hands, and that stuff is hard to wash off! But, I still definitely prefer the EcoTank to the fiddly cartridges - tip to self (and you guys) is to buy some disposable gloves or even use some marigolds next time I top my ink up.
Apart from being slightly messy when topping the ink up, I can't fault the printer, it is fantastic. It works perfectly and I print via my Mac, my iPhone and the iPad - so very easy to do, with a push of a button, it prints. It prints clear and cleanly and is reliable - which is important for me. With the savings it will offer in the long run, ease of use to air print and print wirelessly, scan - I will go as far to say this is probably the best printer I have ever owned (and I have owned quite a few over the years).
With the printer is included 4 full sizes of ink, and even after filling the inks up in the printer, I was left with about 1/4 of ink to top up with.
The Epson model we reviewed is the ET-2500 which costs RRP £229.99.
