We love books, I read to both Jacob and Summer everyday (several times a day) and we have tons of different children books, however I have never download and read a children's iBook before, so when I was asked to review 'A spoonful of stew in Zanzibar zoo' I said yes.
We download the iBook to find it was colourful, with quirky illustration, and fun fonts - Jacob couldn't wait to read and listen to the story.
The story is centered around three main characters, Charlie who is the smallest zebra in Zanzibar zoo, Matilda the kindest zebra in Zanzibar zoo, who helps everyone and she tries to make sure Charlie gets something to eat, however Butt the naughtiest Zebra in Zanzibar zoo, who doesn't share, eats all the food, leaving poor little Charlie without anything to eat. The zebras get cross with the naughty Butt, and Butt soon finds himself alone, so he takes on the task to make amends. It is written with rhyme verses throughout, which makes it more fun to read and the story delivers an important message on sharing, not to be greedy, and how important it is to right your wrongs.
This book was thoroughly enjoyed by both Jacob and myself and I would highly recommend it to anyone with children. It is an interactive and an overall enjoyable read and Jacob especially enjoyed the fantastic illustrations. The available audio narration further enhanced the reading experience as it is delivered in a fun and captivating tone, which has had Jacob sitting through listening with interest several times since we have downloaded it on Saturday.
The book is the first in the 'Zanzibar Zoo' series, entitled 'A Spoonful of Stew in Zanzibar Zoo', and it is currently only available via iTunes (FREE download for iPad / iPhone, Mac, iPod). Available on Google play very soon.
