When we were invited to visit Shrek Adventure to say the kids were excited is an understatement - during the car journey, they even imitated Donkey's 'are we there yet' - it was funny at first but then.... not (although, my fault, I started it).

I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised on how great the whole experience was. I think hubby and I enjoyed it just as much as the kids. I'd read a few reviews online before we went to try and understand what the attraction is. It's far better than expected, it is something you really have to go and do to experience.

We couldn't take many photos as you are not allowed to film / photograph in the attraction, not until the very end where you get to meet Shrek and can take pics. 

So what is Shrek's Adventure?!

Shrek's Adventure is a walk and ride attraction that is unique. You get to experience and interact with the Far Far Away kingdom - it takes you on a fun journey with amazing DreamWorks animation, with some fun frolics along the way.

The adventure tour takes you through a series of different rooms - 10 live fairy-tale themed shows, where you fully immerse into the magical land, meeting the different characters. It begins when you board a magical 4D ‘DreamWorks Tours’ bus, you then visit Shrek’s swamp, find your fortune in the crystal ball, get lost in the Mirror maze - we did get lost/stuck for a few minutes until Sleeping Beauty rescued us - and get trapped in Rumpelstilskin's prison - until Shrek rescued us. 

During the way, we met Cinderella, and Summer exclaimed "see I told you Cinderella was real" and she had the biggest and sweetest smile on her face.

The whole experience immerses you with special effects where you can interact into the story. The story is full of suspense with some action to keep you hooked - you are part of the action as opposed to just watching the show - it involves singing, a bit of dancing, joining in on a game show and much more. 

We took Summer who is 3, Jacob is 6 and Lewis 13, and each one of them loved the experience. Although the younger two did get a bit scared during parts and Jacob did get a bit apprehensive, especially as the storyline is the Witch is coming. Nothing scary actually happens, it's more anticipation on what might happen - especially when the lights go out for a few seconds. But the kids still thoroughly enjoyed it. Summer hasn't stopped going on about it and keeps asking when we can go again.

Shrek's Adventure is the full 4D experience, including scents to enhance the experience. But, Lewis suffers from cognitive anosmia (he has no sense of smell), although, that didn't lessen the fun for him, he still got to experience the 3d ride and the sounds.

At the end of the Shrek Adventure and after you meet Shrek to take some pics, you then move into a couple more rooms which are full of other DreamWorks characters, including, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon. These additional DreamWorks rooms offer lots of fun activities, games and lots of opportunities for taking photos with these characters.

I highly recommend Shrek's Adventure, it was a awesome experience and we would definitely return.
